Education standards – The different approach to the field of education

The International Organization for Standardization has issued a series of standards for educational institutions. Specifically, the following standards are available:
ISO 29993: 2017 Learning services outside formal education – Service requirements
Describes basic principles for how to provide non-formal education services. Indicatively it has requirements for the following:
• Identification of educational needs
• Educational program design
• Selection of trainers
• Selection of educational material
• Selection of educational equipment and space
• Implementation of educational services
• Evaluation of educational services
The standard concerns: Tutoring, Private Schools of Higher Education, Vocational Training Schools (eg cooking schools), Lifelong Learning Centers, Institutions that provide e-learning and seminars to professionals, Conservatories, Acting and Directing Schools

ISO 29991: 2014 Language learning services outside formal education – Requirements
It contains basic principles for providing non-formal education services for learning foreign languages. Indicatively it has requirements for the following (essentially the same as the above):
• Identification of educational needs
• Educational program design
• Selection of trainers
• Selection of educational material
• Selection of educational equipment and space
• Implementation of educational services
• Evaluation of educational services
The standard concerns: Foreign language tuition centers, Foreign language institutes

ISO 21001: 2018 Educational organizations – Management systems for educational organizations – Requirements with guidance for use
It is essentially the adaptation of ISO 9001 to educational organizations. It follows the structure of ISO 9001 and therefore includes requirements such as:
• Identification of the business environment of an educational organization
• Risk and opportunity analysis
• Targeting
• Staff training
• Defining minimum desirable qualifications for staff and associates
• Evaluation of partners, suppliers
• Maintenance of facilities and equipment
• Design and development of educational services
• Requirements for the provision of educational services
• Management of changes in the educational organization
• Internal inspections
• Management Review
• Non-compliance management
• Measuring customer satisfaction and managing complaints
• Improvement actions
The standard concerns: Tutoring (foreign languages, secondary education, university education), schools of all levels, colleges, Lifelong Learning Centers, Vocational Training Schools, Institutions that provide e-learning and seminars to professionals, Conservatories, Acting Schools and directing
