ELOT 1417 – Agrotourism – Terminology and general requirements for agritourism service providers

Agrotourism is a mild form of sustainable tourism development and multi-activity in the rural area. The standard applies to companies operating in agritourism destinations that provide one of the following services:
• Accommodation
• Catering
• Nature tour
• Awareness, environmental education
• Familiarity with the cultural elements of an area, visit to historical and other attractions, participation in outdoor recreational activities
• Familiarity with traditional professions, agricultural methods of production and cultivation as well as production processes that have disappeared
The requirements of the standard are related to the following seven areas of business operation:
1. Legislative and regulatory framework (operating licenses, restrictions, etc.)
2. Building and Operating Terms (architectural features, building materials, equipment, security, etc.)
3. Environment (environmental management plan, environmental measures, etc.)
4. Local characteristics (promotion of the special cultural and natural characteristics of the area, promotion of local products, etc.)
5. Human resources (jobs, staff training)
6. Customer (communication, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement)
7. Synergy – Rivalry – Networking – Competitiveness – Innovation
