The need to strengthen employment and vocational training led the social partners to establish the LAEK. The LAEK implements various measures to promote employment and vocational training.

The LAEK Committee is appointed by the Minister of Labour and Social Security and presided over by the director of the OAED. It seats four representatives: from the General Trade Union Confederation (GSEE), the Confederation of Greek Industry (SEB), the General Greek Confederation of Craft Producers (GESEBE) and the Confederation of Greek Trade Associations (EESE). The LAEK has the following resources: employer contributions of 0.45%, grants from the Special Fund for Vocational Training Programmes and employee and employer contributions to the Special Joint Unemployment Fund under the terms of Articles 14 and 15 of Law 2224/94.

Individual enterprises, joint ventures and cooperatives plan and implement their own training programmes or commission bodies authorised to that end, in accordance with the regulations concerning the total amount of funds available. The amount spent may not exceed the annual contributions. This sum is reimbursed by the OAED to the enterprises if they carry out the programmes in accordance with the principles laid down by the LAEK Administrative Committee.

Priority supports customers' LAEK programmes in order to effectively take advantage of the funding provided by OAED.
