The E.F.Q.M. is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988. Today is the leading player in Europe that provides tools and methods to achieve excellence in organizations of any kind - regardless of size, kind or character, public or private - who want to improve the results of their work. The E.F.Q.M. cooperates closely with similar organizations in the U.S., Japan and other countries worldwide. The EFQM Excellence Model, is the most common in Europe and it is the basis for most national and regional quality awards.

The self-assessment process, which is based on the EFQM Excellence Model, is a comprehensive, systematic and regular review of activities and results which an organization may develop and produce, using as reference the specific model of excellence. The self-assessment process allows an organization to identify strong points and those which need improvement and to proceed with a systematic program of continuous self-improvement.
