Personal health data better protected by ISO standard |

ISO has published a new technical specification which will increase protection of personal health information processed, stored and transferred by computer systems for subsequent use by clinicians and others in healthcare organizations. ISO/TS 14265:2011, Health informatics - Classification of purposes for processing personal health information, defines a set of high-level categories of purposes for which such personal health information can be processed .

New ISO collection of international case studies proves economic benefits of standards |

A series of ground-breaking case studies by ISO and partner organizations based on the experiences of 11 companies operating in a variety of business sectors in 10 countries shows that implementing standards can provide economic benefits from between 0,5 % and 4 % of their annual sales revenues. The 11 companies that participated come from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Botswana, South Africa and Germany (two case studies). The size of the companies varies from a small business with 25 employees and annual sales revenue of around USD 4,5 million to companies with several thousand employees and annual revenue of over USD 1,5 billion.

2011-10-14 - World Standards Day is celebrated each year on 14 October to pay tribute to the efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who collaborate within IEC, ISO and ITU to develop voluntary International Standards that facilitate trade, spread knowledge and disseminate technological advances.
The theme of World Standards Day 2011 is,"International standards - Creating confidence globally".
The World Standards Day message is signed by the leaders of the three principal international standardization organizations: Dr. Klaus Wucherer, President of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC): Dr. Boris Aleshin, President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and Dr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The three organizations are the partners making up the World Standards Cooperation (WSC).

ISO has developed a new standard, ISO 28002:2011, Security management systems for the supply chain - Development of resilience in the supply chain - Requirements with guidance for use in order to promote resilience at every step of the supply chain. ISO 28002 offers a comprehensive and systematic process to enhance prevention, protection, preparedness, mitigation, response, continuity of operations and recovery from disruptive incidents. Its generic auditable criteria, when implemented in a management system, can be used to establish, implement, monitor, review, maintain and improve an organization's resiliency policy to plan for, take action and make decisions before, during and after an incident to its supply chain.
